This full-day course is for experienced advisers who sometimes deal with complex benefit queries concerning EEA national and their family members. You will need a broad understanding of the social security benefit system. It does not look at benefit issues concerned with other immigration issues for non-EEA nationals. It will provide advisers with an understanding of the issues that may be relevant when advising EEA nationals and their family members and cover the relevance of a suitable right to reside to entitlement to Universal Credit. The course is designed to enable the adviser to enable the adviser to identify cases in which the right to reside is an issue and provide options for advising clients in these circumstances.

Are you struggling to keep on top of all the social security and tax credits changes? This course will update your knowledge of current issues in administration, legislation, case law and practice. The course will focus on recent changes and imminent reforms. This is not an introductory course.

If you work with Carers and provide advice on entitlements then this course is for you. Delegates must have a basic understanding of the benefits system. The course will bring together all the elements of the welfare system that are relevant for Carers. It will equip delegates with legal, practical and pitfall information in order for them to holistically advise Carers of their full entitlement. This is a free course for Surrey-based organisations.

This one day introduction to Universal Credit is for advisers who are looking for an overview of the new benefit. it will provide advisers with a good outline of how Universal Credit is being introduced, who is entitled, the claim process, claimant conditionality and how Universal Credit is calculated. This course is for advisers who support older people and who have an understanding of the benefits system, especially means-tested benefits. This is not an introductory course. Participants will gain an awareness of benefits which can be claimed by people over pension age, and will understand how to ensure that such clients can receive their full benefit entitlement. Particular attention will be given to showing how disablement or frailty in this age group can increase benefit entitlement, and how mixed age couples are treated in social security terms. This course is for local Citizens Advice advisers who are or will be delivering Help to Claim, and in particular, face to face support. Advisers should have generalist advice level understanding of the benefits system. It will introduce advisers to Universal Credit, who is entitled, how UC is calculated and how clients make a claim. In addition, the course will take delegates through the key stages of an online claim and examine the main systemic problems for claimants.. Fee applicable – see Training Fees page for rates.

As Universal Credit rolls out changes in circumstance will mean more and more legacy benefit claimants are faced with the prospect of claiming Universal Credit. These ‘natural migrations’ will not be provided with transitional protection and in many cases will receive less on UC than on legacy benefits.

This course will provide staff and volunteers with the tools needed to understand when a claim for Universal Credit is the only option. There will be particular emphasis on the Severe Disability Premium (SDP) gateway that prevents a claimant being able to claim Universal Credit. Fee applicable – see Training Fees page for rates.
