This course is for advisers who support people currently unable to work due to illness or disability, and who will be advising on ESA and Universal Credit. As Universal Credit rolls out “Limited Capability for Work” will be the test for entitlement if claimants are unable to work due to illness or disability. This course will provide what advisers need to know about the test and securing and keeping benefits for clients unable to work.

This course is for anyone who needs to be able to advise on benefits and wants to understand the landscape of working age social security. The course covers the existing social security system including Tax Credits. The Universal Credit content will reflect advice requirements in Surrey ahead of the full service roll-out. Trainee advisers who are now advising clients will build on their basic benefit training. More experienced advisers will benefit from consolidating their knowledge of individual benefits to gain a comprehensive overview of the inter-relationship of benefits. At the end of the course you will have good foundation knowledge of the system and how to support your clients with their entitlements.

This course is for advisers who need more detail on how Universal Credit can help claimants who rent or who have a mortgage to pay. Delegates will need to understand the basics of Universal Credit. Advisers will gain a more in-depth understanding of how support for rent and mortgage interest can be provided via Universal Credit, at what level and any restrictions that may be in place. This course will bring together all the elements of the welfare system that are relevant for carers who are nearing state pension age or who are already pension age. The course will equip delegates with legal, practical and pitfall information in order for them to holistically advise this client group of their full entitlement. This is a free course for Surrey-based organisations.
