Who is this course for?

This course is for advisers who already have a good understanding of the benefits system and want to know more about the specific rules that apply to students.

Aims

To enable experienced welfare benefits advisers to understand the impact of studying and student income on benefit entitlement.

Objectives

By the end of the course delegates will have increased understanding and knowledge in order to:

  • Identify which students can make claims for benefits
  • Recognise which claimants can remain on their benefits when becoming a student.
  • Understand the impact of student income on means tested benefit entitlement, including what income can and can’t be disregarded.
  • Be able to advise students who are taking a break from their studies.

A complete set of slides will be provided at the end of the course.
