This 2-day course introduces you to the social security system including Tax Credits. You will find out who is entitled and how to claim. At the end of the course you will have good foundation knowledge of the system and how to support your clients with their entitlements

Aim

To raise awareness and increase knowledge of the structure of the Social Security and Tax Credits system in order to help clients maximise their income through claiming appropriate benefits.

Objectives

By the end of the course participants will be aware of:

  • The difference between income-related (means tested), National Insurance and non-contributory benefits
  • The common rules for income related benefits. Particular emphasis will be given to the specific rules of the means tested benefits premiums
  • The basic rules of entitlement to Personal Independence Payment, Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance
  • How to advise a client on maximising their income by claiming benefits i.e. carrying out a “benefits check”
