Surrey Welfare Rights Unit
was set up in 1990 to provide a welfare rights
advice service within the county of Surrey.
The Unit provides an
independent, impartial and confidential service. Our
independent status allows membership of Citizens Advice and the Unit abides by the Aims and Principles of the CAB
service.

*CHANGES TO SWRU SUBSCRIPTIONS*
In order to secure services for the future the Unit's trustee
board has decided that the Consultancy Advice Line will become a service for
subscribers only. This change will mean an increase in the subscription
fee, but the other benefits such as publications and reduced training fees will
continue to be included in the package. We have carefully structured the
subscription tariff, we believe, so that small and large organisations will be
able to afford to continue to access the team's expertise. We have
taken several decisions to help organisations with this transition:
Find out more about the subscription package
here.
You can subscribe online for the period April 2009 to March
2010 here.
Now in our 17th year we have been awarded the Specialist
Quality Mark by the Legal Services Commission and in addition have met the
further Support Services standards. Our training has also been
assessed and now is accredited by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority.
If you would like to help us with our fundraising efforts in
order to secure the services for the future you may like to visit the
Smartchange site where the Unit has an online profile -
www.smartchange.org
or you can use Everyclick to search the internet and register as a
fundraiser for SWRU.
Our main purpose is:
To
provide specialist support and training to volunteers and staff who provide
advice to their clients
To produce information and publicity on welfare rights issues for
both professional staff and, where relevant, members of the public
To promote the take-up of welfare benefits especially
among the frail and vulnerable
To provide a source of expertise on Community Care issues
To be a focal point of welfare rights work across the region through support
groups, seminars and informal talks, social policy work and networking
This website is a resource for advisers and is not intended for
general public use. If you are not an adviser and are seeking help with
a benefit related query then click on Advice where
there are links to other helpful sites.
